I advice Microsoft to include this function urgently in the IOS version - I will stay with iPad vs Surface anyway. Also, you don't have to click the lasso option, just use the side button on the pen to select the ink you want to convert. I have a client that wants to be able to take handwritten. It just needs a significant update on a user interface. With a first Apple device (iPad Air 2020) I found that the OneNote in the iPad version cannot recognize ink to text which is essential for me. Normally you would just right click and choose ink to text.

Still more improvement can be made on the ink-to-text recognition front. I've used this function for many years to improve handwriting recognition for English and Dutch. More recently, doing this routine does not convert my handwriting to text, but pops up a tiny dialog box with 'Micro.' in the title bar, and no field for input just a 'Cancel' button. I think by now, handwriting samples should not be hidden in the configurations menu, but should be actively part of the ink pad, onenote, windows journal and onenote for the modern UI. At first it worked fine - handwrite the text on my hp specter 360, lasso the text, and press the 'Ink to Text' button - voila, editable text. When you let go, the ink strokes in your handwriting should appear selected. With your finger, pen, or mouse, press down on the screen and drag a selection around the handwriting that you want to convert. On the Draw tab, select the Lasso Select tool. Many people don't know this part, but it has been availble since windows 2005. On any page that contains handwritten notes, click or tap the Draw tab.
